Tenth Week Reflection

First of all, we started this week by learning the differences between games, game-based learning and gamification. Games have existed since human history, so it's human nature. On the other hand, in game-based learning, you teach what you are going to teach through games, that is, the thing that guides you is games, on the contrary, in Gamification, what guides you is your subjects, your needs, the game is just a part of your teaching method. For example, some schools teach children something with a minecraft game for game-based learning. I think this is suitable for younger children who are learning more basic and simple things, but at the same time, it is better to learn something by designing it in the game rather than learning by writing and working. I think gamification is more advantageous because it is more logical, cheaper and easier to do. Then we looked at the elements of game design. While game mechanics is the game's own features, levels, like challenge, and game dynamics indicate the emotions that these features trigger in you, such as status, self-expression. When we look at a game in general, the music it contains, such as a sound given when you win, or the visual effects of the back side being green when the right question is answered, I think it makes the game better in general. Then we looked at the types of players; killer, achiever, socializer, explorer. Although it obviously varies from person to person, if we are going to use games to learn something, it is most useful to be the explorer type of player, but unfortunately it is in the minority group. Then we looked at a few examples of how we can produce games ourselves, in my opinion, we can turn any subject into a game by determining a goal. Finally, we talked about ClassDojo, an application where students have their own monsters and virtual classes. If I come to my own opinion, for a child who grows up in this period, who likes to take care of things in the virtual world and is fond of games, adapting what you will teach into a game, producing it yourself or using a game will ensure that they do not get bored of the lesson and get the highest efficiency. Of course, I found it useful not as game-based learning, but as gamification.
