My Thirteenth Week
First of all, we looked at augmented reality in english learning this week. When we look at the difference between virtual reality and augmented reality, AR usually includes visuals, videos, audio content, 3D, etc., adapted to real life on a smartphone, while VR consists of a virtual world completely disconnected from real life and is usually used over a headset with 3D feature. Pokemon go or Ikea can be given as examples for AR. AR consists of three types: Image-based AR, Creation based and Markerless based. Before talking about the types, we looked at a site where you can learn languages with AR, namely Mondly. On this site, it is as if you are talking with an animated character in real life and you learn the language in this way. In my opinion, it is a very interesting and efficient site. You can also use Image-based AR with a QR code or by having the images read, but the safest method is to use a QR code. I think it's more suitable for beginners because it's more like a game. Then we looked at a site called AKUT, where the pictures inside the books come to life, which is a feature that will attract the attention of beginners. Then we looked at AR for brochures, which is more like a digital newspaper. As for Creation based AR, you use it to create something yourself. Examples of these sites are plug XR, unite AR, Unity and Vuforia. Unity and Vuforia is an app for more professionals. Finally, we looked at the Wonderscope site, and I think it's catchy and instructive for younger learners, plus the visual effects are pretty good. As a result, it will be very productive to integrate such applications into the course for a generation born with technology, but different sites should be chosen for each age group because some sites are more suitable for children, while others are sites that can be used by adults, but are also encouraging sites for beginners.
